My husband and I are at Roy's twice a year with a large group of friends The meals are always consistent Service is great Thank you to the staff

My rating reflects most on the ambience and location of Roy's. It is by Spanish Bay Golf Course in Pebble Beach. You are on the ocean, and there is a nice, large patio and lawn area where you can come early and have a drink, while enjoying the Pacific Coast. At sundown (or, around 6:30 p.m. during the summer), a bagpiper walks along the golf course and will by playing for the guests, as is the tradition on a links course. Everyone on the patio stops their chatter and starts filming when the bagpiper walks through. It is just a unique sight. To be honest, I think the food is very over-priced, and not overly impressive, but it is good. (Although, I did get major food poisoning after dining here years back with a fish entree flaked with crab; I haven't eaten anything with crab since). The entrees range from $40 - $121 each. I had the Salmon with Japanese white rice & citrus ponzu. It came with a small portion of broccolini, which was ok, since the broccolini was not great. I could have used more of the citrus flavor, and the salmon was fine; nothing exceptional. This cost $44.25, which was one of the cheapest entrees on the menu. I like salmon, and often choose it. I also refuse to order a $70 sea bass, or a $60 pork dish, or a $64 - $82 steak. They would need to be making the food much more amazing than it is to make me want to choose those items. The prices seem to be over $10 higher per entree than they were around 8 years ago. Their cocktails range from $17.50 - $24 each. Desserts are $17.50. I tried the mango cheesecake with pink guava sauce. I love those flavors. It was good, but again, not necessarily exceptional. Portions on entrees & dessert are small, so if one is very hungry, you should definitely eat someplace else. The reason I chose Roy's: 1) Celebrating a big birthday milestone 2) Just had several major family emergencies and wanted a special treat 3) I had been before and love the ambience & views & the bagpiper as something unique 4) Enjoy the access to drive the 17-Mile Drive when there is time 5) Had tried Peppoli's Restaurant that shares the same patio area, and was not impressed with their food, nor their views from indoors 6) Had reviewed restaurant menus of most restaurants in downtown Carmel, and none had stood out much with their offerings, and hate having inconvenient parking (Roy's has it's own lot -- it is free parking) For the food, I would rate Roy's a 3 (even a 2, if considering the price in that). Overall, I have a very nice evening there, mainly due to the view of the ocean, the nice patio seating outside beforehand, and the experience of the bagpiper as a unique twist. If ambience does not really affect you, and the taste of the food is your main priority, then you can get better food for a much better price elsewhere. If you have a large appetite, you might even leave Roy's hungry, as it is not large portions, and the vegetables were minimal and bland. I would recommend Roy's if you can afford it, and if you want to celebrate a special evening, or perhaps have some drinks and appetizers on the patio. I love being by the ocean and ambience outside with the sea air, fire pits, and bagpiper. If cost is an issue, definitely skip having a full meal, arrive during daylight, sit on the patio, and have a drink and split an appetizer, and then drive 17-Mile Drive. Often there will be a wedding or event outside the restaurant windows. It can be interesting for people-watching. I would recommend to Roy's Restaurant to re-evaluate the pricing structure, and possibly jazz up the food to meet the high value you are giving it, because you are really at a 3; the location and views bumped up my score.

The food and drinks here are amazing. Even after not being particularly hungry, that first bite into the burger put me at a loss for words. It was so juicy with the melted jack cheese, crispy bacon, and fresh vegetable toppings. The strawberry mint mule was also refreshing and delicious. Our table also ordered the shrimp tempura and salmon roll, calamari, and mai tai. It was all delicious. The service was also fantastic and prompt.

If you've been to a "Roy's" anywhere you'll feel like home in Spanish Bay. Restaurants strive for consistency since that's what kills a restaurant faster than anything. "Gee" why'd it taste different this time vs last?" Etc. my issue with Roy's isn't really the food. It's a lovely setting looking out on the Ocean with an option to eat outside if you're inclined. Nope, my issue is the feeling one gets once seated. The second you sit down you feel the energy of the servers immediately --="what kind of water do you want?" "Can I order you cocktails?" "Our specials tonight are...." All in the first minutes. I asked a friend that I know had eaten there what he thought of it and he said, "it feels like a cafeteria"-- same thing my wife said when we got home. It's a Wham, Bang, Thank you Man" kind of pace. Look if you don't care then it's not a big deal. Food is consistent. No surprises. When asked about the salmon our server said, " you can get salmon anywhere, " my favorite is ..." I never care what their favorites are. I don't know them from Adam. I do ask sometimes "How is so and so prepared tonight" is it a popular dish vs the Y.....the other restaurant in Spanish Bay is Peppoli-- Italian that is a completely different experience. I only bring it up because it's so different an experience.

We're regulars here. I must say every time we dine, it's always a great experience. Though our regular servers were not there anymore, the new ones that were attending to us are polite, friendky and attentive to our needs. It was super packed that night, not one table that is empty, was guessing there was an event at pebble beach. But even if everyone was very busy with the large amounts of diners, they still manage to give us 5 stars service. Our server were very attentive, foods came out just in time, no long wait, all our orders were to our liking and we approved of all the taste. The view is beautiful as always. We were glad we were seated by the window so we had the chance to dine with a view. We usually reserve an outdoor table but it was cold so we opted to dine inside. Always a pleasure dining here!

Wow! Roy's at Pebble Beach is a must! Come for the views and stay for the magnificent food. My friend and I came for a Saturday lunch reservation and sat on the patio at one of the fire pits. What a wonderful experience! The bento box and the beef noodle dish were absolutely delicious. The wine and cocktails were also great. The fire pit and the views were lovely. The service and kindness of all of the staff... from the hosts to all of the servers was very professional and kind. I can't say enough about this place. It was my favorite meal on my trip to Monterey County. I highly recommend Roy's and will go back for sure.

Eating at Roy's wasn't just to fill the stomach, it was also a pleasant experience that our server had given us. My aunt chose to celebrate her birthday here and it was honestly a great choice. We had a party of 12 and our server, Tony, was literally the best! He was very tentative on each individuals needs and was knowledgable of the menu. For appetizers we started with the calamari and tempura tofu cake. The calamari was soft and fresh. The star for me was actually the tempura tofu cake. I wasn't expecting much since it was tofu, but the batter for it was delicious! Tofu was silky and dip it with the sriracha aioli they decorate it with is *chef's kiss*. For the main entree I ordered the bento box with the baby back pork ribs and boy oh boy did that leave my tastebuds crying for more. It came with a vegetable roll, salad, rice, and tuna sashimi (this alternates). The ribs itself was so flavorful and tender, it would easily slip off of the bone. Based on the pictures you can tell we went out with dessert. DON'T FORGET TO LEAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT BECAUSE YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS OUT. Tony gave our table complementary dessert as our first order was the lava cake *HEADS UP* it takes about 20 minutes to prepare so order it ahead of time! The cake also had a little happy birthday message for my aunt which was very nice of them. The Kona Mud Pie had chocolate and coffee ice cream with a chocolate shell on top & oreo crumbs on the bottom. It also comes with a coconut ice cream sorbet(?) which was refreshing. I'm not a big fan of coconut but the flavor wasn't overpowering at all. The mango cheesecake was a favorite as it had a nice tart flavor to it. My personal favorite was actually the raspberry vanilla swirl ice cream that came with the melting chocolate cake. Turns out they make their ice cream in house which i wasn't surprised at all since you can definitely taste it. This review is longer than I usually write, I tried my best to share my experience with as much detail as possible but honestly it's best to experience it first hand. The quality and experience makes up for the price. Great food and great service!
